Shawdowing Day

In support of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges & Universities (WHI-HBCUs), the Joint Federal HBCU Task Force will sponsor the 2012 Federal Job Shadowing Dayfor Georgia HBCUs, on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Federal Job Shadowing Day aims to expose and connect students to the federal agency and profession of their interest. These professions may include, but not limited to scientists, engineers, attorneys, IT professionals, accountants, analysts, public affairs specialists, trainers, doctors, HR specialists, investigators, law enforcement officers, program administrators. Through shadowing, students can gather information about their chosen profession from someone working in the field, at his/her place of employment.  Essentially, it allows students to gain a first-hand account of what it is like to be in a specific profession, within their agency of choice.  The experience provides realistic career information that will aid students in preparing for and making decisions about their future careers.

This event furthers the goals of The White House Initiative on HBCUs which was first established by President Jimmy Carter in 1980, and has been renewed by each succeeding President. On February 26, 2010, President Barack Obama renewed this Initiative with Executive Order 13532.  The Executive Order calls for Federal agencies to assist in strengthening the capacity of HBCUs to provide the highest-quality education, and increase opportunities for HBCUs to participate in and benefit from Federal programs.

** This event is organized by the Joint Federal HBCU Task Force, a coalition of federal agencies and HBCUs in the State of Georgia working together to advance the goals of the WHI-HBCUs. **
